Vladimir de Pachmann (1848-1933) throughout his life as a solo pianist was a perfectionist, returning for long periods to study and develop both technique nad [and] interpretation, in consequence of which he stood very high in the estimation of the discerning musical public throughout the world. La Fileuse as written by Raff can easily be degraded into mere sentimentalism but modified by Henselt becomes a smooth-flowing little tone-poem which forms a perfect vehicle in evenness of touch so difficult to achieve which was typical of de Pachmann's style.
