The funeral of M. Vladimir de Pachmann, the celebrated pianist, who died in Rome, was conducted in strict privacy. His impresario, Francesco Pallotelli, with whom he lived for 20 years, reveals that, though he was ailing for many months, M. Pachmann, on the night before he died, went to the piano and played a few bars of his favourite Chopin nocturne. He then lit a cigar, but was too weak to finish it. He sometimes smoked 10 cigars a day.
