B. Odessa, 1848; pianist; studied with Dachs and Brückner [Anton Bruckner (1824-1896)]; debut at Odessa, 1869; toured Europe and U.S.A.; his programmes, originally of the widest scope, have gradually centred on Chopin, of whose works he is the favourite interpreter.
